First Generation Consoles

Spanning from 1972 – 1983, the first generation of home consoles was the dawn of a new era. It saw the birth of one of the most famous names in retro consoles, Atari with Atari Home Pong. Other notable consoles included the Odyssey series, Coleco Telstar series and the Color TV-Game series.

Second Generation Consoles

The second generation of home gaming spanned 1976-1982. The Atari 2600, and it’s competitors, some of which included Colecovision, Intellivision, Odyssey 2 and teh Fairchild Channel F are the notable retro consoles from this period. It is highlighted by the heavy use of interchangable cartidges, which was big upgrade from the limited systems previously like Atari Home Pong.
